Career Pathways Courses - Bankstown College
I would like to provide information about the courses we are running at
Bankstown. Please ask your staff/volunteers to be aware of
the courses below that are also suitable for those with NESB (non-English
Speaking Background). All courses are fee free for all ages.
For those who want an ATAR to go to University we offer 10767 Cert
4 in Tertiary Preparation.(Nursing, Child studies, Teaching,
Business, Accounting, Lab skills or anything where they need the language
of Maths and/ or Science.) They only need to do 9 subjects over a full
year and English is the only compulsory exam. Tutoring can also be arranged
when necessary. Classes are small and students are very well supported and
typically do very well). This is a better choice for students who might
be considering a later bridging course at university as it has the same
function and avoids the $10-15,000 debt) ( two semesters). Last year our top
student who was a Syrian refugee and recent arrival got 96 in English and 8
students got marks in the 80’s and 90’s. All of these were from NESB
backgrounds. This course gets them a mark which is translated into an ATAR for
university entrance.
For those who want to upskill in English, Maths and computing we offer
Cert 3 in Pathways to Further Study 10769 -this course
allows entry to many vocational certificates and trades. Tutoring can also be
arranged. (one semester)
For those who did not finish school at whatever age and need the basic
educational certificate (Year 10 equivalent)- 10591, 10591E, 10591M, 10591S Cert
2 in Further Study Skills. This also has the Statements of Attainment
for Police or Defence Forces, Science (Forensics), Maths and English embedded
in it. Students can do one or all.
For those who don’t want to go to work but need more language and work
skills we offer 10585 Certificate 3 in
Career Advancement- all units are assessed in class and almost all
work is done in class unless the students wants to practice at home. There is
no Maths but it focusses on English usage and computing. (one semester)
I’ve tried to keep this short but please feel free to contact me at any
time. Thanks
