UWSCollege is proud to once again be running Skillmax Jobseekers Courses at our Westmead campus and an English for Employment course at our Bankstown campus. These courses are free for eligible Skilled Migrants. Below is some more information about the courses and eligibility criteria.

Skillmax – A job-seekers course for skilled migrants
Course 1
Commencing :                  Monday 3rd August 2015
Days and times:                Every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, 9:30am – 3:00pm
Concluding:                        Wednesday 3rd September 2015
Location:                              WESTMEAD – Building J, 158 Hawkesbury Road, Westmead.
Course 2
Commencing :                  Monday 21st September 2015
Days and times:                Every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, 9:30am – 3:00pm
Concluding:                        Wednesday 21st October 2015
Location:                              WESTMEAD – Building J, 158 Hawkesbury Road, Westmead.

As per our previous courses, 2015 Skillmax courses will help students to develop job search strategies for the Australian employment market.

Course outline
·        Developing a greater awareness of workplace culture and trends in the Australian labour market
·        Finding your fit in your field of expertise
·        Developing a career portfolio including your résumé and cover letter
·        Strategies to identify employment opportunities
·        Preparing for the job interview
·        Career management skills
·        Marketing yourself effectively

The eligibility requirements for this course are detailed below and on the attached flyer:
Candidates must
·         Be a permanent Australian resident
·         Have overseas qualifications
·         Be seeking work in their field of expertise
·         Have an IELTS score of 6.5 or higher


English For Employment – a 3 day per week course with English language tuition for skilled migrants
Our next English for Employment course begins Monday 14th September and is delivered over nine weeks:
Commencing :                  Monday 14th September 2015
Days and times:               Every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, 9:30am – 3:30pm
Concluding:                      Wednesday 11th November
Location:                           Bankstown - UWSCollege Building 17, 2 Bullecourt Avenue Milperra

IT Professional Assistance - SKILLME

·         You are invited to a great opportunity for IT professionals who are seeking employment to get connected and be mentored!

·         If you are:
- A migrant from non-English background, with  Qualification and experience in IT, and looking for work

Then this session is for you!

As part of the SkillME project to support migrants from non-English speaking backgrounds into employment, Metro Assist is running a mentoring session for IT professionals with overseas or local qualifications.

·         Where: Lv 2, Bankstown Library and Knowledge Centre
·         Corner of Rickard and Chapel Road, Bankstown
·         Speaker: Allen Shao

Allen currently works as a IT manager for Medibank. He has many years of experience in various disciplines in IT with numerous multinational companies in Australia. But like many migrants, when Allen first arrived in Australia from China in 2004 he had to work very hard to land himself his first job as an IT professional. He is a passionate mentor for recent migrants who aspire to achieve in their professional field.

Topics to cover include the current IT labour market and trends; how to develop a strategy to seek employment in IT and what employers are looking for in their candidates.
