Worker’s Name: Dibya Shree Chhetry - Student, Master of Social Work (Qualifying)
Organisation/Service/Project: Western Sydney University
Telephone/Email: Mob: 0426387677

  • Employment Events/Expos:

Social Work and Community Welfare Careers Expo in Western Sydney University (WSU) is held every year in Building EE Parramatta South Campus of the University. This year the university is hosting it on 5 October 2017, Thursday.
SWCW Expo in WSU help students graduating in Social Work and Community Welfare from the university to have an understanding of the agencies working in the Western Sydney Region especially in Parramatta. Also this is a good opportunity for agencies to have a stall free of cost and spread the message on what they are doing for the communities. Agencies in the past years also have used the opportunity to find volunteers needed in the agency. Finally it also helps to build good networks with other agencies and prospective workers.
The agencies are expected to start setting up from 9:00-9:30 am and the stalls will be opened for students from 11:55 amand the expo comes to end at 3:30 pm. Probably pack up might start around 2:45 to 3:00 pm. Universities will provide tables for agencies. It would be great if they register their interest by the mid of next week.
Western Sydney University is again proud to host the highly successful Social Work and Community Welfare Expo. This year's event will connect Western Sydney ...

Telephone/Email: T: 02 9297 9332 | x 29332 - E: jennifer.sunga@fwo.gov.au
Initiative/Project: FWO International Student Engagement Strategy

  • Employment/Job Seeking Training/Workshops:
The Fair Work Ombudsman has penned an open letter to
international students, urging them to be aware of their workplace rights
and to seek free help from the FWO if they experience issues while working
in Australia.
The letter addresses some of the barriers students face when seeking
assistance from us and aims to engender trust in the FWO. We want
international students to understand that they have workplace rights, and
that the FWO is here to help them, but more importantly that they can seek
our assistance without fear of their visa being cancelled.

The open letter will be published in selected media outlets, including some
Chinese<https://www.fairwork.gov.au/about-us/our-role/corporate/open-letter-
to-international-students/simplified-chinese>,
Vietnamese<https://www.fairwork.gov.au/about-us/our-role/corporate/open-lett

release<https://www.fairwork.gov.au/about-us/news-and-media-releases/2017-me
dia-releases/september-2017/20170925-international-students-release>
provides more detail about this and the Strategy.

Next steps
Raising awareness of the FWO (who we are, what we do, and how we can help)
is a key element of the Strategy. New resources are being developed based on
suggestions and feedback received from international students and
stakeholders like you.
