Do you want to improve your English language skills and your job search skills at the same time?

Come along to our friendly group discussions and gain insight and support from our presenters, guest speakers and other job seekers!

Starting on the 10^th February, 2015

we will meet on Tuesdays between

9:30am and 11:30 am

at Chester Hill Neighbourhood Centre

The sessions will cover the following topics:

-     Understanding specialized English (job ads, online information)

-     Writing skills (resumes, cover and introduction letters)

-     Speaking/presentation skills (expressing yourself at job interviews)

UWS College 2015 Refugee Scholarship

UWSCollege 2015 Refugee Scholarship

The UWSCollege Refugee Scholarship provides assistance to refugees in gaining the English language skills required for entry to UWSCollege or the University of Western Sydney (UWS). These students will have university study as their goal and the scholarship will provide effective support to enable students to achieve this and realise their potential within the wider community.

There will be scholarships available (valued at up to 40 weeks maximum of study per successful applicant) to fund a recipient's English language study. Scholarships will be awarded on a competitive basis during the first quarter of each academic year.

Personal Statement

In approximately 250 words, applicants should describe their past education and work experience, their future plans

and their reasons for wanting to study at the University of Western Sydney (UWS). Applicants may also include other

information that would support their scholarship application.

Supporting Materials

Applicant will need to provide the following supporting materials:

•     a current curriculum vitae

•     evidence of completion CSWE 3 level of English or IELTS 4.5 level of English

•     evidence of previous studies and academic eligibility for study at UWS

•     contact details of two current referees, preferably professional.

SEE BELMORE PREPARING FOR WORK (INTENSIVE)

Initiative/Project: SEE Belmore Preparing for Work (intensive)

• English classes/conversation group:

SEE BELMORE PREPARING FOR WORK (INTENSIVE)

The course is suitable for client from both English and non-English speaking backgrounds, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders and Early School Leavers. Clients must be eligible for the SEE program to commence study in the course.

Outcomes:

Teaching will cover the following areas:

·         Computer literacy (word processing, emails. Internet job search and online job applications)

·         Identifying pathways to employment

·         Job seeking strategies

·         Resume and cover letter writing

·         Job interview techniques including mock interviews

·         Presentation and confidence

·         WSH unit – BSBWHS201A Contribute to Health and Safety of Others

·         Basic workplace communication

Location: Canterbury City Community Centre – 130 Railway Pde, Lakemba

Study Mode: 10 hours per week for 9 weeks (2/2/2015 – 1/4/2015) 9 am to 2.30 pm on Mondays and Wednesday
