JOIN OUR TWO FREE WORKSHOPS THIS MAY IN AUBURN

If you are between 18 and 25 years old, from a refugee background and currently volunteering, this training is for you

Our two amazing trainers - Paula Abood and Peter Slattery - will share their knowledge built up over 30 years of working with individuals and communities, help you discover skills you didn’t know you had, and develop those you wish you had! Different  topics will be covered over the two sessions, with a different trainer each night. If you are interested, further details are below and registrations are essential.  Please call if you require further information.

Free English/ writing course for skilled migrants

Improve your English and writing skills for the job market

At its Petersham and Randwick colleges, Sydney TAFE is offering a Skillmax course for overseas skilled professionals that will help get their English language skills up to speed so that they can go for job interviews and communicate effectively in the work place.

Focussing on spoken and written skills needed to find employment, this free course is for people with any overseas qualifications who want to gain knowledge of the current labour market and acquire strategies to access job opportunities in Australia.

The courses, which run 3 days per week for 5 weeks, are being held at Petersham and Randwick campuses, starting with an information session at each campus.

Course outline
·         The course is for skilled migrants seeking employment in their chosen profession. It is a fast track course to prepare qualified professionals to enter the Australian workforce.
·         Human resource specialists and employers will provide sessions on the current expectations of finding work. They will provide career advice and conduct interactive workshops.
·         Tuition areas include: Developing a greater awareness of workplace culture and trends in the Australian labour market | Finding your fit in your field of expertise | Developing a career portfolio including your résumé and cover letter | Strategies to identify employment opportunities | Preparing for the job interview | Career management skills | Marketing yourself effectively.

·         Entry requirements
·         To qualify for entry to this course, you will need to be a skilled migrant seeking employment in your chosen profession who is a permanent resident or citizen of Australia (less than 5 years) and have overseas qualifications.
·         You will need to have an International English Language Testing System (IELTS) score of 6.5. If you do not have an IELTS score, we will be able to assess your English to see if you are suitable for the course.

·         You will need to provide:
• Current visa page of your passport
• English translations of your qualifications
• IELTS Test Report Form (TRF) or equivalent, if you have it.
